چکیده

A (2013) The macroeconomic effects of health co-benefits associated with climate change mitigation strategies. (Unpublished) Summary The UK government has specific targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction to lower the risk of dangerous climate change. Strategies to reduce GHG emissions are sometimes perceived as expensive and difficult to implement but previous work has demonstrated significant potential health co-benefits from 'Active Travel and low carbon driving', 'Housing Insulation/Ventilation', and 'Healthy Diet' scenarios which may be attractive to policymakers. Here a Computable General Equilibrium model is used to assess the financial effects of such health co-benefits on the wider economy including changes in labour force, social security payments and healthcare costs averted. Results suggest that for all scenarios the financial impacts of the health co-benefits will be positive and increased active travel in particular is likely to make a substantial contribution, largely due to health care costs averted. Strategies to reduce GHG emissions and improve health are likely to result in substantial and increasing positive contributions to the economy which may offset some potential economic costs and thereby be seen more favourably in times of economic austerity.

Realistic Belief Revision

In this paper we consider the implications for belief revision of weakening the logic under which belief sets are taken to be closed. A widely held view is that the usual belief revision functions are highly classical, especially in being driven by consistency. We show that, on the contrary, the standard representation theorems still hold for paraconsistent belief revision. Then we give conditi...

Definability of Horn Revision from Horn Contraction

In the AGM framework [Alchourrón and Makinson, 1985], a revision function can be defined directly through constructions like systems of spheres, epistemic entrenchment, etc., or indirectly through a contraction operation via the Levi identity. A recent trend is to construct AGM style contraction and revision functions that operate under Horn logic. A direct construction of Horn revision is give...

Parody: Another Revision

The vast diversity of the proposed definitions of parody, both before and after the twentieth century, can be an emblem of the lack of a thorough agreement amongst the literary critics about the definition of this literary technique (genre?!). While there is not a comprehensive all-accepted definition of parody, modern and postmodern literatures both exhibit a wide application of it. After look...

The Ontology Revision

An ontology consists of a set of concepts, a set of constraints imposing on instances of concepts, and the subsumption relation. It is assumed that an ontology is a tree under the subsumption relation between concepts. To preserve structural properties of ontologies, the ontology revision is not only contracting ontologies by discarding statements inconsistent with a revising statement, but als...
